Or haGan is currently at the stage where we must build membership. To do that, we must also build our list of offerings. But it is the vitality of the members that will guide us in the path that the congregation wants to go. Our challenge to you is to take up the cause to support plurality in Eugene’s Jewish community. Tell us what you want to see. Share where you’ve been and what you have experienced. Offer suggestions of how we can serve your spiritual, cultural, social and communal needs. Be part of promoting a choice for Eugene’s Jewish community.
Some ideas that we are poised to serve in the future are:
A wide variety of basic Judaism classes, courses in Jewish prayer, life cycle – calendar and the rhythm of Jewish life, Halakha, Synagogue skills, adult B’nai Mitzvah, Biblical Hebrew, Bible, Commentaries, Jewish philosophy, Rabbinics, Kabbalah, Jewish music, meditation, folklore, Jewish law, modern Israel, history (ancient, medieval, and modern), Talmud, new Jewish theology, women in Jewish law, Comparative religions.
We hold community holiday celebrations, events and study sessions, with the goal of making sure every member has hospitality for holidays. Or haGan traditionally has a light Shabbat pot-luck lunch after morning services. Come join us, get to know us, share your visions of Jewish community with us.
Establishment of youth group activities. The choice of whether or not to affiliate with any of the non-denominational groups should be made with the young people involved. This possibility would open youth programming to include exchanges with others in Eugene and in the Pacific Northwest. Some possibilities include Young Judea, Habonim, Bnai Brith Youth Organizations.
