Or haGan established the first new religious school in the Jewish community in many years. We welcome the fresh energy and participation of the young children of the Jewish community. Continuation of a multi-faceted curriculum teaching cultural tradition, Judaic studies, observance, and synagogue skills in Biblical and modern Hebrew is vital to the growth of our community and to perpetuating the Jewish people. We depend on the interest and energy of Or haGan members to build this vital source of Jewish continuity.
Or haGan, Light of the Garden Jewish Community in Eugene, plans new programming for university students. It will provide: synagogue skills and adult b’nai mitzvah; the Jewish spiritual path; training in Jewish leadership and preparation for maggidut (lay leadership as preacher, teacher and community organizer).
Students in our spiritual leadership program will learn skills that are transdenominational. This will work well in a university and community college setting. Several students will have the opportunity to learn and build Jewish communal skills through internships at Or haGan, as well as mentorship with members of the Board of Directors.
Students are always encouraged to attend Or haGan Shabbat services, as well as special events.
